Bargello color order (golden sunset effect)

I'm setting up my first bargello, and my original layout ran from deep red to burnt orange to golden yellow. I flipped the order so yellow comes first, but now I'm second-guessing myself. I'm hoping for a sunset-like transition, but does the color placement affect how it turns out?

Got it, the order of colors really changes things. If you want a sunset look, go from yellow to orange to red. Have you tried arranging them to see how they look?

I was just trying to picture the flow in my head. Haven't actually arranged the fabric strips yet to see how they play together. Do you find it's better to audition them in natural daylight to get the real effect?

If you really want to see the true colors of a fabric, the best way is to check them out in natural light. It just gives you a clearer idea of how they actually look and interact with one another. Trust me, it makes a world of difference

I ended up laying the strips out near the window last weekend and you're right, the colors looked way more vibrant and the transitions felt smoother. The golden yellow popped a lot more than it did under my workbench light, and I could actually see how the orange and red would blend into it. I'm leaning toward keeping yellow at the start now, but I might shift a few strips to soften the jump between shades.

Also try taking a black and white picture of your layout. Seeing the values of the fabrics within each color section might help you in making your switches.
