When piecing a pattern block that is all the same pieces, so you cut them out and stack them in sewing order, then sew? Cut them apart from each other, then so the next set of blocks? I usually do that.

This is especially how I do attic windows.

I usually cut all the pieces first, then stack them in sewing order and chain piece them all at once. Saves a ton of time, especially with repetitive blocks like attic windows. After sewing, I cut them apart before moving on to the next set.

If it's the first time doing a particular pattern, I always make a test block first, before cutting the rest of it out. I got burned once with wrong measurements and had to buy an additional yard to make one of the pieces over.

If it's something you've made before, then yes, I cut the whole thing out at once. It may seem to take a long time to cut, like a whole day, but you can sit down, sew like crazy and get the quilt done in a day or few.

Great idea to create a test block first, it really helps avoid a lot of trouble down the line. I've definitely had my share of issues with inaccurate measurements, and dealing with extra fabric isn't exactly enjoyable. Solid advice
