Tips for Ironing padded applique blocks without flattening

working on some padded applique blocks and am curious about the best way to press them without damaging the padding. I've tried a few methods, but sometimes the padding gets a bit flattened or loses its shape after ironing. Do any of you have tips for keeping the puffiness intact while still getting a crisp, clean finish? I've heard of using a pressing cloth or a lower heat setting, but I'm wondering what's worked best for you. Any advice would be appreciated!

For keeping that puff in your padded appliques, try ironing them face down on a terrycloth towel, that way the padding has somewhere to go and won't get squished flat. My nana (who was a wizard with quilts) swore by that trick for anything with a little loft. @Nessah_

The terrycloth trick is gold as mentioned by @Gab's Gift! From my experience, I also had luck using steam from a distance. Make sure there's no direct contact but just enough to relax the fabric without flattening the puff. ) GL!

I agree with both of them, or a wool pressing mat can also help maintain the shape, and some quilters even use a tailor's clapper afterward to set the seams without flattening the puff . Test on a scrap first to see what works best with your materials.
