Oversized machines

When I do a quilt block or free-style quilting for a purse, I use my oversized Janome 6500P machine. It is best to have a large harp area if you can. Most of the oversized machines have about 8.5 inches in the harp area.

I did try out a Babylock Allegro, and it's 20 inches across with 12 inches in the harp area. That is a machine that needs a big table to use, but the extra space in the harp area is very nice.

Hey, that Janome 6500P sounds great for quilting, especially with that big harp area. The Babylock Allegro's huge 12-inch harp must make quilting large projects way easier, but yeah, it definitely needs a sturdy, big table

Yeah i agree with @Chanter , that makes sense, having a larger harp area really helps with quilting bigger blocks or freestyle work. Your Janome 6500P's 8.5" harp works fine for most projects, but the Babylock Allegro's 12" harp is a game changer if you have the table space, giving a lot more room to maneuver fabric comfortably.
