Everyone needing a free software, I suggest you try PreQuilt. Very easy to understand and smooth UI! I've been finding something alternative to QuiltInk with HSTs, colors, and basic blocks. This one just gets me. Let me know once you try and update here!!!

EQ8 and Quilt Pro are good options with lots of features for block layouts and fabric planning. For something free and simple, go for PatternJam.

If you're after free alternatives, you might want to try Quilt Assistant or Graph Paper for basic layouts
