AccuQuilt disintegrating

I've been using AccuQuilt for several years now, mostly for cutting quilt pieces with precision, and it's always been one of the tools I trusted. But now the foam under the dies is literally crumbling away, like breaking down to the point that it's affecting the accuracy of the cuts. I've always followed proper storage and never left it in the sun or somewhere humid, I even rotate the dies and make sure I'm not using too much pressure, so I'm not sure if this is just inevitable with age or if I've overlooked something important in long term care.

Foam wear is pretty common over time, even with good care, maybe try replacing the foam or adding a thin protective layer to extend die life and keep cuts accurate

Might just be time catching up, even if you were careful, hope you find a good replacement or workaround that doesn't cost too much

That foam breaking down is pretty normal after a few years, even if you're careful. It sucks, but it just happens with age. Have you checked if AccuQuilt can send replacement foam or dies?

Unfortunately, even with the best care, foam (especially the type used in cutting dies) does have a lifespan. Over time, the materials can break down due to repeated compression, exposure to air, and just general aging of the polymers. So, it's very possible this is simply inevitable wear and tear after several years of use.

and the good news is that replacement foam is available. AccuQuilt sells replacement foam mats specifically for their dies. It's designed to be easily replaced. This isn't usually a sign you need new dies entirely, just new foam

You can buy new foam, in the hand tool area of a big box hardware store (Lowes, Home Depot) or at tool and supply store (Grainger or Northern Tool).
Measure your foam thickness at the outside edge of the die. It's probably 1/4".
What you want to look/ask for is the foam padding to line a tool box with, 1/4" depth.
Remove all your disintegrating foam from the die, run the new foam thru the AQ like you would for fabric and it will cut it to size of your die. Take out the pieces...
Use adhesive made ESPECIALLY FOR FOAM, as other spray adhesive will melt the foam. Spray on Elmer's school glue might work?
